The formulas

Simple enough to explain. Useful enough to act on.

This calculator deliberately avoids false precision. It exposes the commercial assumptions so a marketing and finance team can challenge the same model.

01

ROAS

Attributed revenue ÷ advertising spend
02

Break-even ROAS

1 ÷ gross margin
03

Customer acquisition cost

Advertising spend ÷ new customers
04

Gross profit after media

(Revenue × gross margin) − ad spend

Interpretation

A number becomes valuable when it changes a decision.

Before you scale budget

  • Confirm that attributed revenue uses a consistent window
  • Include refunds, fulfilment costs and sales-cycle delay
  • Compare platform conversions with CRM-qualified outcomes
  • Check whether extra volume changes conversion rate or CPC
  • Write down the budget decision and review date

ROAS questions

Common questions, direct answers.

What is ROAS?

Return on ad spend is attributed revenue divided by advertising spend. A ROAS of 4.0x means four euros of attributed revenue for each euro spent on media.

What is break-even ROAS?

In this simplified model, break-even ROAS is one divided by gross margin. At a 50% gross margin, the modelled break-even ROAS is 2.0x before overhead and other costs.

Is a higher ROAS always better?

Not automatically. A high ROAS can coexist with low volume, weak attribution or poor lead quality. Read ROAS together with gross profit, customer acquisition cost and qualified pipeline.

Can I use this for B2B marketing?

Yes, as a directional model. For B2B, use won revenue or a consistently weighted pipeline value and allow for the real sales-cycle delay.
