A measurement plan connects a business question to a signal, a source, an owner and a decision. It prevents collecting numbers without knowing what they change.

Practical ruleMake the decision, evidence and owner explicit before adding another channel, tool or automation.

Write the business question

Examples: which audience produces qualified opportunities, which offer earns a next conversation, or where does the handoff lose context?

Define observable actions

Name the event, trigger, parameters and whether it is primary or supporting. Keep definitions readable enough for marketing, sales and analytics to agree.

Choose a source of truth

Document which system owns spend, conversions, lifecycle and revenue. When sources disagree, record the reconciliation rule instead of hiding the difference.

Add a quality rule

Define duplicate handling, bot or spam treatment, attribution limits and the minimum volume needed before interpreting a signal.

Set the review rhythm

State who reviews the data, how often, what threshold triggers action and where the decision is recorded.
